Finally, after a series of setbacks and restarts it is finally finished! The board is a basic computer to be assembled out of 74 series components, with lots of LEDs so it is easy to see what is going on.
To do the design I have used the geda suite of tools. Excellent free software that works brilliantly with Ubuntu. Rock solid (more than I can say for the commercial software we can use at University) and nice to use. There are a fair few things that need to be fixed before it can become mainstream, such as the DRC, annotation and back annotation and element replacement but there is rapid development.
